When God Calls You to a Different Pace

Yesterday, I was driving on the highway in silence, just talking with God.
My cruise control was set to 60 mph — the speed limit was 55.
I’ve been more careful lately after getting a speeding ticket, so I was intentionally abiding by the limit.
But as car after car zipped past me, I felt that pull — the urge to keep up.
To match their speed.
To not be “left behind.”
That’s when I heard the Lord’s gentle, quiet voice speak to my heart:
“Jacquie, the world’s ways are moving in a different direction — and at a different pace — than My ways. It’s human nature to want to keep up, or even speed ahead. But I’ve called you to live differently. Be alert and mindful of My ways. It won’t always feel natural, and it may even feel slow or unproductive. But My ways are intentional… and better.”
I sat with that for a while.
The pace of God often feels so different from the pace of the world.
We live in a culture that rewards speed — faster growth, quicker results, immediate answers.
But God doesn’t measure success in speed. His pace allows for depth, for timing, for preparation we can’t see yet.
If I race to keep up with everyone else, I might miss the moments He’s placed right in front of me — the conversation with the person who needs encouragement, the chance to pause and notice His beauty, the opportunity to follow a nudge from the Holy Spirit.
Jeremiah 6:16 says:“Stand at the crossroads and look; ask for the ancient paths, ask where the good way is, and walk in it, and you will find rest for your souls.”
Sometimes the “good way” will feel slower.
It may even seem like you’re falling behind.
But it’s not wasted time — it’s God’s intentional, life-giving timing.
So, friend…
Maybe today He’s calling you to slow your pace.
To let go of the pressure to keep up.
To walk with Him instead of running with the crowd.
Because His ways are better.
And His pace leads to peace.
